Update on Physics world cold fusion discussion http://physicsworld.com/blog/2008/06/coldfusion_demonstration_an_up_1.html
Here's another one of those stories on how the hydrogen infrastructure based on solar will save us all from an energy crisis, seemingly overnight..right? It's a good thought perhaps on how to get the petro industry off oil. But isn't 30 years a little too late to bring this one up?Never mind the scaleability issues in putting up these plants nationwide. Heck, with all the oil profits and technology the article states is 30 years old (most likely correct)..where it it by now? Just like real-estate, location location, location is important. In energy I think an appropriate phrase would be "scaleability, scaleability, scaleability" if any solution is ever going to be taken seriously enough and quick enough to help millions of americans from hitting a carbon based brick wall down the road. I do agree with the moon shot analogy. That's about what is going to be needed in money and resources to get an 'oil addicted' US off of oil. Left to the oil companies alone, it will never happen in the next thirty years. Oil companies are clearly in the "operations business." They're too busy finding the next oil well at sea and new well world-wide. They're not in the alternative energy R&D business looking for new ways to invest their billions in profits into bright new viable alternatives to get us off of oil. Maybe the above is a good way to do it. But thirty years too late maybe? I hope I'm wrong.I base this opinion solely on the example of leadership I'm currently seeing from the oil industry that we can all clearly see in the news each day while we watch our wallets be emptied to record profits.Energy Crisis Must Be Our Generations Moon Shot
Cold Fusion joke ..An orthodox physicist in a jewelery store, looking at a Breitling watch:"Well I don't know, it does look cool, but there's no proof it's a real thing... I'll wait until few independent manufacturers manage to replicate it."
Chan, Here's a great graph of Crude Oil vs NASDAQ. Interesting similarity huh?CRUDE vs NASDAQYah, I'de say it's a peak about now.shema
To me it has a sort of a musical feeling to the graph ..like this.Sun Goes Down
Nice video. Thanks Carlam.
The Presidential debate is getting interestingquote:McCain on Monday proposed offering a $300 million prize to anyone who develops a battery that can “leapfrog” the abilities of current hybrid and electric cars. He also said he would offer a $5,000 tax credit to buyers of cars that produce zero carbon emissions.Obama commended McCain for the effort to develop a more efficient car battery, but said the prize is not enough.“When John F. Kennedy decided that we were going to put a man on the moon, he didn’t put a bounty out for some rocket scientist to win — he put the full resources of the United States government behind the project and called on the ingenuity and innovation of the American people,” Obama said.He also continued to criticize McCain for pushing a summer gas tax holiday, which he said would save American drivers about 30 cents a day, and for wanting to lift the federal moratorium on offshore drilling.full link here:http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/06/24/obama-mccain-zap-each-other-on-energy-proposals/
Looks like an "IBeatYou" contest underway...GM Chief Tell Obama How to Save Auto IndustryOK Senator McCain ..can you top that one?
